这款车以前在韩国以外地区被称为Centennial(百年世纪)，国内的进口汽车销售商也曾经引进过，这是一款专为后座买家所生产的高级车种，据说该车在韩国本土，大部分车主都是政府官员或企业总裁，而这款车辆在海外地区，几乎是韩国的驻外单位大使之类的高官才有的配车，当然这也显示了Equus这部车在韩国人心目中不一般的地位。

现代雅科仕车型于1999年春进入市场，代表着现代汽车的设计、制造的最高水准。
Equus（雅科仕）风格上与中国人熟悉的现代XG车型非常相象，采用方正保守又见古典的造型风格，表现出其高雅豪华的气派，这也是现代为了与全球高级房车产品竞争而生产的一款车。
